Using samba server we can upload,download and view a files.
where as FTP server we can only upload and download a file.

In samba server we have a printer sharing, but where as in
ftp we don't have such option.

In samba we need to authentication like we give a username
and password., In ftp we can acess as anonumous user and
athentication.

Practically ftp server is fast downloading and uploading
where as samba is comparetively less.

Samba Server:- Samba is the application or u can say that
utility of Linux. With Samba you can share a Linux
directory and access it from Windows Machine. I mean to say
after configuration of Samba Server we can commounicate
(share and access) between Linux and Windows OS. In Samba
server we can also shared a Printer. We need a user name
and password i.e its a authentication process.

FTP Server:- FTP means File Transfer Protocol. FTP works on
port 21. Its an unauthentication process for ANONYMOUS
user. With ANONYMOUS user you can view the file bydefault.

one major difference is , in ftp the directory or file is to be known by the user
while as in samba, only the share name will be known, but not the actual path or file or folder


downloading the file or folder with ftp is fast when compared with samba

we cannot restrict the samba service in tcp wrappers

in case of downloading the content from internet web pages,
ftp is used. because it is very easy to handle and rectify the errors.

Samba: samba server is used to access the Linx PC to window
PC. and share the user in the Linux PC. then we can access
the user in the window PC.

FTP: ftp is the (File Tansfer Protocle) we can share the
directory through ftp server then we can access the any O/S
system but system has been connected in a network.

Samba is server application.
ftp is a protocol.

SAMBA - it is Primary / Secondary Domain Controller, and
file sharing server.
FTP - Its only the file uploading protocol

Samba is Linux service which helps u to communicate with the windows platform.It requires SAMBA User Authentication.

FTP: Is protocol which helps u to transfer file in network doesn't matter which is the platform.FTP also provides User Authentication(Local User i.e real user)It gives access to ANONYMOUS user to access date stored in ( /var/ftp )

Note= /var/ftp is default shared location for ANONYMOUS users. We can Change it.

SAMBA SERVER :-samba is an application is used to integrate
Linux system into windows it mostly commonly used in file
server for windows machines.
ex:- we can share a directory or file from Linux machine to
windows machine or you can share same directory from Linux
machine to Linux machine.
FTP SERVER :-ftp server is used to share a directory in a
network of Linux machine only.
