Aithough the above stated reasons are correct.
The main reasons was as follows:-
Gazhni was not a high born king, he does not belong to any
aristrocratic family,and his kingdom was very small. so to
make his image as a great king he vowed to the khalifa that
he will wage war against non muslims to gain respect in the
islamic empire.
besides he got a lot of money from india.
And for his 17 expeditions in india.only in a few times he
was able to penetrate in india most of the times his
invasion ends on the punjab sindh border only.

His another motive may have been to spread and glorify
Islam as well. HE DID NOT WANT TO ESTABLISH HIS EMPIRE IN
