In Load Testing,we measure the response time and throughput
for a web based application which has a large number of users.
In Stress testing,we test the same application for slightly
more number of users than it is intended to be used.

In Stress testing,we test the same application to find the
threshold value by increasing load on the system.

i will give simple example so you can get easily ..........



requirement is a plastic chair to sit for person with 100 kg...

x company prepared
load testing : 50kg person fine, 70kg person fine then 100kg person....fine and base line......

stress testing: apart from the requirements sit a person with wait 150kgs and checks whether that chair can handle the maximum limit(upper limit)....

spike testing: one person already sit on chair with 80kgs and to check abnormal conditions add some weight like 30kgs, 50kgs ......(applications running with some load and sudden increase of load )



functional testing:
chair flexibility ...
four legs are touching floor and strong...
etc............ :) :)
