1. A contractor is a business or individual that enters into an agreement to provide goods, services, or work for another party (the employer or the main contractor) under specific terms and conditions. A subcontractor is a contractor who works for another contractor (the general contractor) on a construction project. 2. No, in cash accounting method, TDS (Tax Deduction at Source) cannot be claimed on advance received from a contractee as it is considered an advance payment and not income.
