If an enteric coated tablet is taken with milk, will it
disintegrate in stomach or still it will manage to pass
into the intestine and disintegrate in inherent alkaline
environment of intestine?
Answer Posted / ivan
enteric-coated dosage forms are designed to be dissolved in basic medium which is why it dissolves in the small intestine. its material for coating protects the drug from premature degradation in the stomach. if it is taken with alkaline substances such as milk, part of it if not all, will be disintegrated thus being inable to exert its effect on the body
