trans diol from alkene?
Answer Posted / venkatesh
enantio selective dihydroxylation is called Assymetric di
hydroxylation
Eg:Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation (also called the
Sharpless bishydroxylation) is the chemical reaction of an
alkene with osmium tetroxide in the presence of a chiral
quinine ligand to form a vicinal diol.
According to prevost mechanism, alkene when reacts with
iodine in the presence of phcooAg to give anti dibenzoate
which on hydrolysis with KOH gives anti diol
