Explain the classification of oxides ?

Answer Posted / guest

Oxides can also be classified on the basic of oxygen content
present in them. This classification is as given below

(1)Normal oxides:- Normal oxides are those which contain as
much oxygen as permitted by the valency rule.

(2)Poly-oxides:-Those oxide which contains more oxygen than
allowed by valency rules

These are two types:-

(a)True peroxides:-The poly-oxides which can be considered
to be true salts of hydrogen peroxide are known as
true-peroxides

(b)Dioxides:- The oxides which contain higher percentage of
oxygen like peroxides but these do not give hydrogen
peroxide with dilute acids
