Answer / boateng joseph

with CNC machines the control unit contains a dedicated computer which uses the data
provided in the part program to control the machine tool. The complete program to produce a
component is input and stored within the memory of the computer, and the computer can access
information for calculation of work/tool movements. It is possible for cycles of movements
(canned or fixed cycles) or repetitive movements (looping) to be activated with a single
instruction. The reduction in the amount of input information is one of the big advantages of
CNC. For example, only one line of input information is required for the drilling of 30 holes
equally spaced on a pitch circle of 400 mm. On an NC machine, to drill this number of holes
there would have to be 30 lines. The information for each operation is fed from the control unit
to the motors etc., when a signal indicating the completion of the previous operation is received
by the control unite.
