what is 5-4-3 rule?..

Answer / raystargazer

On a 10base5/10base2 coaxial network you are restricted to a
maximum of 5 segments with a maximum of 4
repeaters/concentrators and no more than 3 of the connecting
segments may have user connections.

Prior to switched networks there were no buffers provided to
store data which created timing issues getting the data from
one end of the segmented network to the other. Modern
switched networks do not experience these issues.
