Volume = Gallons/Minute x Minutes ==> V = Rt
V = 20a = 30b = 40c
Express a and b in terms of c:
a = 2c
b = 4c/3
With all pipes open, the fill rate becomes:
R = a+b-c
R = 2c+4c/3-c
R = 7c/3
Time required is Volume / Fill Rate:
t = V/R
t = 40c/(7c/3)
t = 120/7
t = 17.14 minutes

Answer / daniel
If the pipes work together, the fill pipes are open, and the
"empty" pipe is closed.
So, it will take about 8.3 minutes to fill the tank.
