Some times I use the network tools command for
troubleshooting problem. I use Ping command to check the
physical connectivity, nbtstsat -a for DNS resolving.

infrastructure are MRTG,Cacti, Cisco Works, HP openview.In
which MRTG will guide you for the router utilization
(bandwidth , memory , link utilization ).Cacti will help
you in troubleshooting switch problems (bandwidth ,

alerts related with T1, E1, E3, DS3 etc.
