what is solvent and what is the use of it in organic
synthesis.how you select a solvent for a particular
reaction.
Answer Posted / m. k. atal
solvent is media which allows the reactants(solutes) to
dissolve in it to form homogeneous solution. Solvent
provide a media for reactants to move freely without any
inturruption by dissolving them and it makes collision of
reactants easy and hence product formation gets ease by its
supporting effect.
The best solvent is one which can disssolve the reactants
to large extent and form homogeneous solution of low
viscosity.A good solvent is one than does not react with
solute molecules.
