What are the main theoretical models that try to explain the formation of the enzyme-substrate complex?

Answer Posted / Alka

The Lock-and-Key model, Induced Fit model, and Substrate-Enzyme Complex Interconversion (SECIF) model are some of the main theories that attempt to explain how an enzyme and its substrate come together to form an enzyme-substrate complex. The Lock-and-Key model proposes that the active site of the enzyme is shaped like a lock, with the substrate fitting into it as a key. The Induced Fit model suggests that the active site of the enzyme undergoes some conformational changes to better accommodate the substrate. SECIF model further extends this by proposing multiple interconverting complexes during the catalytic process.
