Dust is removed from a carpet, if we strike it with a stick,
why ?

Initially the carpet and the dust particles are in rest.when we beat the carpet with a stic, the carpet comes in motion but the dust particles tend to remain at rest due to inertia of rest.so the dust particles remain in air while the carpet comes down due to the beating of the stick.
