explain why tap changer is always connected to high voltage
winding side of the transformer.
Answer Posted / asad
It is difficult to tap the l.v winding since it is placed near to the core due to insulation consideration. it is easy to tap the h.v winding because it is outside the l.v winding, easily accessible and therefore can be tapped easily
Tap changers on the h.v side carry low current though more insulation have to be provided.
