why synchronization done in clockwise direction?
Answer Posted / jock
To ensure the incoming generator takes up load as soon as
the generator circuit breaker is closed.
If synchronism was achieved with the synchroscope
indicating an anti-clockwise rotation the generator would
not take up load and instead would driven by the bus, ie.
reverse powered. If the reverse power is large enough
tripping of the generator is likely to occur.
When manually synchronising a generator to the bus it is
normal to give a quick 'increase' command on the controls
just after the breaker closes to ensure positive power
loading takes place.
