what is cliestogamy?

Answer Posted / anitha

Cliestogamy is the pollination that occurs before the
flower opens. Cleistogamous flowers must of necessity be
self-compatible or self-fertile plants. Cleistogamous
flowers are often formed late in the year, after the
production of normal flowers, or during a period of cold
weather, as seen in several species of violet Viola.
