can any one tell whats the difference between smoke testing
and sanity testing

"Smoke and Sanity testing both perform the same type of
checking which is whether the software should go for major
testing or not. The difference lies, Smoke Testing is
performed at developers end by the developer and in
contrast Sanity Testing is performed by the tester.

Well, Fundoo it seems you are new to QA
experience/business. Don't comment that your answer is 100%
correct answer which is distorted & Confusing to those
persons who are reading this site.
First of all: The Smoke test are done each and every time,
if the version is changed, that has nothing to do with
developers etc. Yes, are you using Automation. If yes, then
the smoke test are done by the Autoamation team(expert)
after the developers have given the software to the QA
team. Well if your company is small then it may be the
developer doing that, then in that case you are a Tester
not a QA. Regarding the Sanity Test, that is performed
first time, when the application is developed. Later you
have Smoke test and lot of regression test before you are a
new version is developed. And the cycle goes on and on. I
hope to the readers that the confussion is cleared after
reading this.

(urgent)hi all can any one answer to following questions.i
have an interview tomorrow.it will be a great help if any
one answer to this questions.thanks all.

1.when ever we get a build do we need to do smoke test is it
compulsory,and how much do they spend for test.

2.generally all the testcases are stored in which place in
real time.is there tool used to store that testcases and
test plan,suppose we are using test director can we store
all our test cases in it, and where does entire application
test cases and test plan is stored assuming that company is
using test director.


3.and when we file a bug,and it gets fixed after that do we
need to do regressing testing only on that test case or any
other test cases also.how the process will be there in real
time.

4.when ever a new feature is added to the application do all
the test cases to be re executed.

5. can we use toad, winaql in oracle database to access sql
queries.

Answer

I think you are confussed.The answer to your query is if
the new feature is added. We first needed to update the
requirement in the testplan for which a new testcase has to
be added in the testplan and script needed to execute
them.This is apart from the test script one has executed
already before the new attachment/feature. Depending on the
meeting with the PM/group they may take out the old
testcase and update the new testcase but a formal document
is already written in the matrix. I hope this will give you
a better picture to understand the QA activities.
