A server that is dedicated to handling users that are not
on a LAN but need remote access to it. The remote access
server allows users to gain access to files and print
services on the LAN from a remote location. For example, a
user who dials into a network from home using an analog
modem or an ISDN connection will dial into a remote access
server. Once the user is authenticated he can access shared
drives and printers as if he were physically connected to
the office LAN.

service that translates domain names into IP
addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they're
easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based
on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name,

www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4.
The DNS system is, in fact, its own network. If one DNS
server doesn't know how to translate a particular domain
name, it asks another one, and so on, until the correct IP
address is returned.

Active Directory:
A directory service from Microsoft that is
a part of Windows 2000. It is an implementation of Internet
standard directory and naming protocols that uses a
database engine for transactional support, and also
supports a variety of application programming interface

lead to some oddities. For example, I find myself talking
