more than 2600 protocols. it is used in microsoft windows,
linux, Unix. TCP (Transmission Control Protocal)and IP
(Internet Protocol)is leading protocal.

TCP/IP finds its roots from ARPANET made by US department
of defense. TCP is transmission control protocol,belongs to
transport layer, connection oriented. It takes data from an
Application and divides that into small segments.
IP is internet protocol,belongs to the network layer. It
does functions regarding the source and destination
addresses.

TCP/IP : It is the connection oriented protocol, full-
duplex,reliable. It uses port numbers to tranmit the data.
It also establish a reliable session by creating a virtual
circuit.It is very difficult to define a tcp ip protocol
in a three-two lines. I have mentioned some important
steps . Hope u understood atleast a basic knowledge
regarding tcpip.
