TCP/IP finds its roots from ARPANET made by US department
of defense. TCP is transmission control protocol, belongs to
transport layer, connection oriented. It takes data from an
Application and divides that into small segments.
IP is internet protocol, belongs to the network layer. It
does functions regarding the source and destination
addresses.
A lot more can be said about the 2 protocols.
