500 - 550 means 100-110 in each paper. its cant be like that
. see very body can 10-11 questions satisfactorily , if 7 is
avg mark for those satisfactory answers and 3 for the
remaining v get then 77+12 = 89(around 90). but its a
different story for paper 1 and 2 . for this ,avg i think
might be around 70 . so 90 X 3+70 X 2=410. for an
intelligent person . for those who did extraordinary 450
.who does extraordinary worse wud score around 250 .

Hello friends,
I wrote my group-I exam from tirupati. The general trend
was that nobody could answer more than 12 questions overall
for all the papers. i beleive the maximum marks for each
question will be "7". which is around 70% for each
question. since the questions were open ended and
application oriented it is very tough to come up with a
ideal answer. I feel that if you answer 12 to 15 points or
roughly three pages of answer with no redundancy and
packing as much facts and statistics to support your
answer, it will fetch you maximum marks. i asked many
veterans and senior professors well versed with General
studies subject, all of them have quoted between 420 - 440
marks to be good for general category. for the obc it may
be tough due to higher competetion. it should be kept in
mind this exam was a game of "Elmination" rather
than "selection". but since this is the first time for such
a pattern of exam we are all sitting guinea pigs for APPSC
to experiment on us at all levels.
i would like to know any thoughts on my assesment.

Hi! I am Madhu, all the replies given above are based on
lack of experience and show their immaturity. The cutoff
will be between 360 & 380

Cut off mark for the next level may be around 440 to 450
for general category and it would be 400 to 420 for
reserved categories. Paper I and Paper V scores will decide
the selection among serious candidates for the next stage.
I agree with Mr.shyam's opinion.

Hi Guys,
Yes, I guess I should agree with some of the answers posted
here, as even I seem to beleive the cut off could be
anywhere between @400 - 450 for reserved candidates and
just above 450 for open category. But going by the numbers
from the total candidates qualified for Mains I guess BC
reserved candidates are going to have the real competition
as BC "A", "B", and "D" are the worst hit with a ratio of
more than 100. For example I'm BC "B" and the ratio we have
is 1:148, (1710 odd male candidates) struggling for 12
posts with the likeliness of only 24 getting selected for
interview in 1:2 ratio. I think we should all hope to get
@450 to get selected in the open category as the
competition is very tough in the reservation category.
Except for paper 1 & 5 we have some hope of scoring in
papers 2,3 & 4 as they were moderately easy and expected
questions, though paper 4 S & T was very general and it
seemed most of the questions were repeated in one way or
the other (for ex. the role of IT in economy, Rural and
India as whole . Another example is Climate change,
Environment, Acid Rain, Air Pollution, Global warming were
all interrelated and general essay questions)
Long story short, I guess most of you would agree that
paper 5 has shattered all of our dreams by timelessness to
solve the paper. Though not very hard to solve but timing
was definitely an issue. While preparing for mains I was
hoping to score somewhere around 510 - 530 but now I think
I might get some where @410 - 440, having some ray of light
as a hope to go to the next level. Also, most of my batch
mates who were flying high before the exams are all
expecting to score averagely. Some of my batchmates may or
may not make it. All of us are now expecting just above 400
but still depends on the way correction is being conducted
as we have to please 2 examiners and a 2nd level
scrutiniser. All we have now is to prepare for Group 2 and
get ready for another round of Group 1 for next year. Lets
hope for better and good luck to all of us.Please share
your thoughts on this and please enlighten most of the
aspiring students with your expected marks and other
sources of information...thanks Shyam
