Answer / subir ghosh
William Bolts(1740?-1808), a private merchant of Dutch
origin, came to Calcutta in search of fortune in 1759. In
the same year he joined the service of the East Indian
Company. He sought the permission of the Company to bring
out a newspaper. The Company authorities, fearing that a
newspaper might disclose their shady affairs and corrupt
practices, not only denied the permission but promptly
despatched Bolts to England.
