What do you mean by MIB and where does it stay?..

Answer / sandeep patra

MIB is Management Information Base. It is kind of database
which is used to group similar objects.
One can specify MIB using ASN1 syntax.

As per my understanding of SNMP protocol and architecture,
MIB resides in SNMP Agent. SNMP Manager requests/queries
from agent, which is served using MIBS stored in SNMP AGENTs.

When SNMP manager gets information from the agent, it
usually stores these informations in its own databases (NOT
MIB). So that these informations can be used by various
applications running on SNMP Manager, which uses these
information to represent in user readable format or present
it in a graphical way.

Answer / kirubakaran

MIB is a Management Information Base.
As the name depicts, Mib is a logical database which stores and manage objects.
Objects are nothing but collection of informations or properties of the Managed Device.
MIB is represented as a tree structure.
Each object in the MIB is represented as separate node. Each node has its own identifier which is call as Object Identifier(OID). These objects can be accessed via SNMP by specifying their corresponding OID.

mib is a permanent small data base is present in the
agent.where it stores the object. object is the management
information for a agent.by following the SMI & ASN.1 Rulus
aprogrammer stores the object in such a way that it can
retraivle.for this we have to use a universal oid or global
identifier. a object is always stored in lexiocographic
order means to retrive a data or store a data or object we
have to go column by column.
