A vocoder (voice coder) is a device or algorithm that analyzes, processes, and synthesizes speech. It separates the speech signal into separate frequency bands, alters them, and then recombines them to produce synthetic speech. Vocoders have various applications including voice transformation, speech recognition, and communication in noisy environments.
