The first printed book in India was the Bhaktamal (Garland of Devotions) by Gopala Bhatta Goswami, a Bengali Vaishnava scholar. It was written in Sanskrit and printed using woodblock technique by the Portuguese missionary priest Francisco de Nobrega.
