1. Why transfomer reting in KVA and Motor in HP

By convention:
Power supplies are rated for their capacity to output power and are rated in VAs or kVAs.
Loads are rated for their power consumption and are rated in hp (In Europe they would be rated in Watts or KW as metric units).
For the purposes of ratings, transformers are rated based upon their ability to supply power to a load and so are rated in VA.
A 1kVA transformer can drive a motor of up to 1.34 hp (1kW).
Note: It the transformer was rated by the power it consumed (the losses when 1KW is drawn from the output) it would be more difficult to figure out what size of transformer you need to drive your 1.34hp motor.
