what is the difference between credit memo and subsequent credit memo

Credit memo means after completion of invoice, returning material to vendor then we will raise credit memo.

But Subsequent credit means already done invoice if the value going to change with decreased value then subsequent credit memo will be raised.

Credit memo for quanity, where as subsequent credit/debit is for Value.
