If one background process took long time to run other than the usual time , what are the areas you will investigate other than SM37 ?

First check Back Ground work process are free or not then Reschedule it with trace using tcode ST05 then we come to know what is the issue and check indexes are there or not and check enque server is working or not then table spaces .
