Xerophyte survival characteristics: Thick cuticle. Stomatal closure. Reduction in # of stomata. Stomata hidden in crypts or depressions in leaf surface (less exposure to wind and sun). Reduction in size of transpiration surface (lower leaf only). Increased water storage.
