What is the use of "Usage" field in the item category
determination? please any one kindly give me the answer?

there are many kinds of 'usage'. Many of them are hardcoded
in the source code, for example for free goods, packing item
generation, retail system...
The only way I know to affect this behavior is use the item
usage in the customer/material info record (details view,
tcode VD51, VD52)
You can customize your own in the item customizing tree, and
then place it in the info-record and use it in the item
determination.
