what are the stages/statuses in the life cycle of a defect?

Answer Posted / xyz

Defect Life Cycle:
------------------

Defect Raised:
A defect is found and has been created in the Test
management tool. A new Defect ID is assigned in order to
track the defect.

On Hold:
Resolution of the defect has been put on hold due to a
technical/Functional issue

Deferred: Defect will be resolved later (may be in later
releases)

Assigned:
The defect is assigned for a fix to the appropriate person.

Fixed:
The defect is agreed upon and a fix has been made in the
developer’s workspace and is ready for review (the
developer has also unit tested the change). Details of the
fix have been documented in the Test management tool.

Retest (Release to Testing):
The development team after fixing the defect has to be
retested to confirm that it has been solved by the tester.

Reopen:
If the defect is detected as not fixed, it is assigned back
to the development team with reopen status.

Closed:
The defect has been tested by the appropriate Test engineer
and accepted that the issue has been resolved and set it to
close. Ideally, the person that raised the defect should
be the person that marks the defect as closed.

Rejected:
If the defect raised is invalid, raised because of the
misinterpretation of the tester or in understanding the
test

Closed No Action:
Defect closed as a part of fix to some other bug or code
chages.
