the three lamps are connected in series 40w 60w 100w at
230mains which lamp glow brightly....

40w bulb will glow brightly.
(1)power ratings are given on the basis of a particular
bulb connected with generally 230 V all alone.so connect
all the bulbs one by one with 230 V individually. from that
we can get the resistance of each bulb.r=v2/p.
(2)now connect them as given in question. then find the
equivalent resistance and eventually current.
now i2r (i square r) gives u the power dissipation across
each bulb. more the power dissipation brighter is the glow
of bulb.
