The plant communities that occupy new area constantly
changing till the establishment of a stable climax
community. The vegetation of area has a life history just an
individual plant of succession.
The intermediate stages in the stages of plant succession
are called seral communities and together constitute a sere.
Successions beginning in watery habitants are called
hydrarch and the different stages of development constitute
hydrosere. Successions beginning in dry situations are terms
a Xerarch and the different stages of the ?sere? constitute
Xerasere. Two types of Xeresere are distinguished namely
Lithoseres originating on bare rocks and psammoseres
occurring on the sand.
Sere on primary areas are called priseres those secondary
areas are called subseres.
