Question { ABB, 84406 }
What are the safety devices in generator.
Answer
normally u find safety device in generators are(above 500kw skl,daihastu 6DK28 1500kw,their are size of a container of truck)
1.-over speed trip,
1.1-underload trip(i.e u can see the load in -ve value ,genrator acts as a motor when parallel operation taking current from another generator)
2.jacket cooling water temperature high ,it will trip the generator and protect the generator being damaged by lack of cooling
3.overload trip.when load demand is higher than rated capacity(i.e ur generator capacity is 400kw but demand got high due to simultaneous starting of many machinsry or electrical items)
4.in some case u will find oil mist detector ,but provisons are there such as relief valve fitted on the alternate doors of crankcase not in all generators
5.low lube oil pressure alarm ,to protect the machinary .no l.o means overhating of running parts and consequence
6.low level alarm of lube oil in crank case.a float device is there to measure and if it is below critical level i.e low low level then it will trip the generator,as pump will not be able to take suction and lubrication of the bearing parts fail
7.jacket cooling water pressure low
