Jack and Jill are playing cards for a stake of $1 a game. At the end of the evening, Jack has won 3..

Answer / guest

They played total of 9 games. Jack won 3 games and Jill won
6 games.

If Jack has won three games and Jill has won $3, she lost a
dollar for each loss, therefore she has won 6 and lost 3 to
make $3 and he won the other 3 that she lost!

Jack and Jill are playing cards for a stake of $1 a game. At the end of the evening, Jack has won 3..

Answer / just a shmuck

They played nine games. Just another way to explain it.
Let's say Jack won three games. Jill is now down by 3
bucks. She's in the negative. She needs to win three
games just to break even. She's not in the red in the
more, but she's not in the black, either. She then needs
to win an additional 3 games to make a 3 dollar profit,
hence "winning" three bucks rather than just walking away
with her starting cash.
