In a two node cluster, if you loose all the heart beat
connections between the nodes, then it is called split
brain condition. To avoid this i/o fenncing came into the
picture.

in a two node active-passive environment , if the heart beat
gets timed out then the passive server thinks the other node
is down and makes itself up and live for the traffic.
this is called a split brain condition, and there is high
chances of data corruption, to avoid that we have the
concept of iofencing.
