31 is the answer...

let y be the total no. of loaves
a be the remaining loaves after 1st thief
b be the remaining loaves after 2nd thief
.
.
e = 0 be the remaining loaves after 5th thief

solution:
a = y - 0.5y - 0.5
= 0.5y - 0.5
b = a - 0.5a - 0.5
= 0.5a - 0.5
c = 0.5b - 0.5
d = 0.5c - 0.5
e = 0.5d - 0.5 but e = 0,
thus,
d = 1
c = 3
b = 7
a = 15

Answer / shashank sharma

let the total b x
1st thief = .5x
2nd thief = .25x
3rd = .125x
4th = .0625x
5th = .03125x
5th thief must have theft the last loaves ie =1
so .03125x = 1
and x= 32 ans
assumption made:the thief can not cut the loaves in half,had he cut the loave in the last then still half loaf shuld hav left.and there is no digit in the number system except 0 which couldnt b halfed,
now if u think i shoul find an answer by thinkin 5th thief hav got 0 loaf then the question becomes wrong bcoz it says ntng had left for sixth thief

Ali Baba had four sons, to whom he bequeathed his 39 camels, with the proviso that the legacy be divided in the following way : The oldest son was to receive one half the property, the next a quarter, the third an eighth and the youngest one tenth. The four brothers were at a loss as how to divide the inheritance among themselves without cutting up a camel, until a stranger appeared upon the scene. Dismounting from his camel, he asked if he might help, for he knew just what to do. The brothers gratefully accepted his offer. Adding his own camel to Ali Baba's 39, he divided the 40 as per the will. The oldest son received 20, the next 10, the third 5 and the youngest 4. One camel remained : this was his, which he mounted and rode away. Scratching their heads in amazement, they started calculating. The oldest thought : is not 20 greater than the half of 39? Someone must have received less than his proper share ! But each brother discovered that he had received more than his due. How is it possible?

Three friend gave Rs 2 tips to waiter . From remaining Rs 3 each one took one rupee. As each one contributed ten . And each friend recieved one rupee back. Means each one had breakfast in nine rupee.
