how the zwitter ion formation takes place in aminoacid
metabolism?
Answer Posted / ankitha
aminoacids contain both carboxyl and an amino group, they
can react with acids and bases to form salts.such compounds
are called amphoteric compounds.
during these reactions carboxylic group can either lose a
proton or amino group can accept a proton.
if both of these groups are ionised the solution of
aminoacid is in the form of zwitter ion or dipolar ion.
thezwitter solutions of aminoacid do not migrate to any
pole in an electric field.
if acid is added to that solution that becomes positively
charged ions move to cathode.
if base is added to solution that becomes negatively
charged,ions move to anode.
