Amnion and chorion are both membranes surrounding a developing embryo, but they have different functions. The amnion is a fluid-filled sac that protects the fetus from physical trauma; it's not involved in nutrient exchange or waste removal. The chorion, on the other hand, is the outermost membrane that is in direct contact with the placenta and plays a crucial role in exchanging nutrients and waste between the mother and fetus.
