Pleura refers to the thin, double-layered membrane that lines the inside of the chest cavity (parietal pleura) and covers the lungs (visceral pleura). The two layers are separated by a small space called the pleural cavity, which contains a small amount of fluid that helps to lubricate the movement of the lungs during breathing.
