Explain the role of the ozone layer for the living beings?
Answer Posted / Gitika Chauhan
The ozone layer, a region in the Earth's stratosphere containing high concentrations of ozone (O3), plays a vital role in protecting living beings from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV radiation can cause skin damage, eye damage, and suppress immune systems in humans, as well as damage crops and harm aquatic organisms. The ozone layer absorbs most of the Sun's harmful UVB rays before they reach the Earth's surface. Depletion of the ozone layer due to chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) can lead to increased UV radiation exposure and negative effects on human health, ecosystems, and agriculture.
