What are pioneer species? What is the role of the pioneer species?
Answer Posted / Nimish Singh
Pioneer species are the first colonizers in a newly disturbed or previously unvegetated habitat. These species have characteristics that allow them to quickly establish themselves, such as rapid growth rates and tolerance for harsh environments. Pioneer species play an essential role in ecosystem development by creating conditions suitable for secondary successional species through their modifications to soil, nutrient cycling, and creation of microhabitats.
