The three distinct phases of a precipitation reaction are: 1) Nucleation: The initial step where small particles form around which larger precipitates grow. 2) Growth: The growth of these small particles into visible precipitates. 3) Coagulation or flocculation: The aggregation of the precipitates to form a larger, more stable mass.
