Fats or oils (commonly referred to as FAS - fatty acid soaps) react with potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) in a process called saponification. The overall reaction results in the formation of glycerol, potassium salts of fatty acids, and chromic acid.nFatty acid + Potassium dichromate + Water -> Glycerol + Potassium salt of fatty acid + Chromic acid
