A network gateway is a device that connects two or more networks together, enabling communication between them. It can be a router but not all routers are gateways as they may only provide local internet access. A gateway usually performs additional functions like NAT (Network Address Translation), DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server, and protocol translation.
