What is the difference between escape(top or bottom) and escape immediate(top or bottom?

"escape(top/bottom) moves the cursor to the top or bottom of the screen, respectively, but it will only move once when a new line is needed. On the other hand, escape immediate(top/bottom) moves the cursor immediately to the top or bottom of the screen and will not wait for a new line."
