What is racemic mixture? Why it is optically inactive?
Answer Posted / Anupam Pachauri
A racemic mixture contains equal amounts of two enantiomers, which have identical physical properties but different optical rotation. It is optically inactive because the right- and left-handed components cancel out each other's optical rotation.
