Epigraphists are scholars who study inscriptions, primarily from ancient times, to learn about a culture or civilization. Some of the problems faced by epigraphists include deciphering difficult scripts, interpreting abbreviations and missing words, understanding the language and grammar used in the inscription, and dating the inscription accurately.
