A cylinder is inserted in a sphere d/h = 2/3. Find the surface area of the cylinder ?

Answer Posted / Soorya Prakash

Let's denote the radius of the sphere and cylinder as r, and their height as h (which is also the diameter of the cylinder). Since d/h = 2/3, we can find h by multiplying r by 1.5. The surface area of the sphere is SA_sphere = 4*π*r^2 and the lateral surface area of the cylinder is SA_lateral = 2πrh. Finally, the total surface area of the cylinder is the sum of its lateral area and the area of a circle with radius equal to the top or bottom diameter (2r).
